I graduated with the Applied Petroleum Geoscience Master Degree from the Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh (UK) in 2018.
Then, I have been working for TotalEnergies in France as a geologist in the development of a geoscience knowledge management platform for offshore and onshore fields.
Recently, I joined Agile Data Decisions as an application engineer, where I can extend my knowledge in the domain of Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) and artificial intelligence (AI).
With my background in geoscience and my experience in the Oil & Gas industry, I contribute to the development of iQC, the AgileDD solution, and I support the customers of the extractive industry (O&G, Mining, Water resources) to get value from their unstructured subsurface documents. One of the advantages of working in a startup is also the variety of the tasks to be accomplished by each team member, so I also enjoy participating to the R&D activities, marketing, and sales.
Vinicius Botelho is a Software Engineer at Petrobras with over 13 years experience where he leads data management and governance strategic projects in different fields such as data analysis and modelling, systems interoperability, georeferenced data visualization, business process modelling and applied machine learning. He holds a BS in Computer Science from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and a MS in Computer Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ. He also is a machine learning expert, having studied at The University of Texas at Austin.
Matt works as a Senior Data Geoscientist at CGG. With 6 years industry experience, the last 4 of those have been spent in the CGG Data Hub where he's focussed on speeding up the extraction, QC and data visualisation & integration of large data transformation projects. With a background in Petroleum Geochemistry, he works in a collaborative team of both data scientists and geoscientists to guide the ETL of data spanning all disciplines. Outside of work Matt enjoys watching and playing cricket, but would prefer not to speak about the most recent Ashes.
Bernard has over 42 years of Oil & Gas Geoscience experience; he is an expert in integration of multi discipline geoscience approaches with emerging high-end geophysics. He has worked with ExxonMobil for 41 years in exploration, development, and production projects around the world. Since retirement, he is involved in the SEG Evolve program as mentor and is participating with several companies in their development programs as senior geoscience consultant. Bernard holds an PhD degree from Ecole National de Geologie and geophysics (France), a master in geology from the Ecole des Mines (France) and a master in quantic physics from the University of Paris (France)
Manoj Valluri has 8 years of experience in carbon capture and storage, EOR, and reservoir engineering. He specialties include reservoir analysis, computer-based modeling and simulations, oilfield chemistry, permitting, risk analysis and project development. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed papers on reservoir/subsurface aspects of CO2 injection, storage, and EOR, and holds a patent in bio-based oilfield chemistry. Mr. Valluri earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from BITS Pilani, India and master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University – College Station, TX. He is a board member/officer of Society of Petroleum Engineers – Ohio Section.
Keyla Gonzalez is a data scientist at TGS where she works on machine learning models to automate formation evaluation analysis. She holds a B.S. in geophysical engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar and a M.S. in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University. She has broad experience on machine learning, microseismic, formation evaluation, and CO2 storage. Her latest research includes the use of unsupervised learning to gain insights into the spatial and temporal CO2 movement and the use of tensor decomposition techniques for denoising and compressing microseismic and DAS data.
Son Phan is a data scientist from the Digital Subsurface Intelligence team at Schlumberger. He is working on developing new machine learning algorithms to improve the quality of the subsurface property predictions from different field datasets for reservoir characterizations.
Wenyi Hu received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, in 2005. From 2005 to 2009, he was a Research Scientist at Schlumberger-Doll Research. He joined ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company in 2009 and worked there as a Senior Research Specialist. From March 2013 to May 2021, he was the Vice President of Research at Advanced Geophysical Technology, Inc. Currently he is the Global ML/AI Scientist – Subsurface at Schlumberger. His active research spans different areas of applied geophysics for petroleum exploration and production and energy transition, including seismic earth imaging and modeling, full waveform inversion (FWI), velocity model building, electromagnetics modeling & inversion, signal processing, and deep learning and data analytics. He has more than 50 technical publications and has 10 US patents / patent applications.
Pushpesh is Sr. Product Manager at Aspentech responsible for HYSYS Petroleum Refining. In this role he is enabling the energy industry in digital transformation and sustainable energy transition which includes creating tools to optimize the shift from transportation fuels to chemicals. After finishing his PhD in Chemical Engineering, he worked with Inveniam Asset Management developing data driven solutions for investments and managing risks in the energy and healthcare industry. He has authored several articles related to Enhanced Oil Recovery, CCUS, and geothermal energy. Pushpesh is actively involved with SPE, he is part of SPE Data Science and Engineering Analytics Advisory committee, and he is the Membership Chair of the new SPE Geothermal Technical Section. Pushpesh was selected as the SPE TWA Energy Influencer in 2020.
Has 24 years of expertise in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) technologies to the engineering industry. SME in Digital Technologies, Project Management, Professional Facilitation, and Reservoir Management - Recipient of the International Management and Information Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers & Served on the SPE Board of Directors and WNAR Director. He built and led AI programs within a Fortune 500 company.
Coach business leaders on how to start an effective AI program from infancy. Popa Facilitates ideation sessions and frame engineering challenges from an AI approach. He holds a Master and Ph.D. on Petroleum Engineering, Application of Artificial Intelligence in Oil & Gas Industry from West Virginia University.
Dr. Amaba is a registered and licensed Professional Engineer in several states with International Registry; certified in Production, Operations, and Inventory Management by APICS ®; LEED® Accredited Professional (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design); and certified in Corporate Strategy by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dr. Amaba holds a copyright for Process Activity Flow Framework®, the foundation for requirements, design, architecture, simulation, and application development techniques. Dr. Amaba is prominently featured in “Giving 2.0,” by Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen with Stanford Business School, which details contributions to bolster and promote STEM education and careers, and is an Alexis de Tocqueville Society/United Way Member, which recognizes local philanthropic leaders. Dr. Amaba has published globally on best practices and robust approaches to drive market innovation, economic development and private public partnerships.
Liz Dennett is a passionate technologist with over a decade of experience using data-driven approaches to solve pressing energy challenges. She has demonstrated success pioneering novel data types, architectures, and analytics solutions through the energy value chain including new energy solutions. Liz is currently a VP of Data Architecture at Wood Mackenzie. Prior to that Liz was the Lead Solutions Architect for Energy Data Platforms at Amazon Web Services (AWS), and held various roles of increasing scope and complexity within AWS, Biota Technology, Hess Corporation, and the NASA Astrobiology Institute. Liz holds a MS and PhD in Geoscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has completed executive education at the Haas School of Business. Liz’s passions include building things, board games, and stubbornly refusing to believe things are “hard”.
Mr. Schrynemeeckers holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Texas A&M University and a Master’s of Science degree from the University of North Texas. He began his career working for Sun Oil Company in Dallas in the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) division. He then worked for many years in the environmental arena and has served as a Laboratory Director and Vice President of several laboratories in his career.
Mr. Schrynemeeckers then returned to the oil industry working for Baseline Resolution, a geochemistry laboratory in the greater Houston area. His focus was developing international partnerships and satellite geochemistry laboratories in Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, and Egypt. He later worked for StratoChem Services, a geochemistry laboratory in Cairo, for two years, and is now the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Amplified Geochemical Imaging, LLC. Mr. Schrynemeeckers presents at multiple conferences throughout the year and heads AGI’s Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration program.

Hani Elshahawi was Deepwater Digitalization Lead and Formation Testing and Sampling Principal Technical Expert at Shell where he has spent the last 18 years. Hani was previously GameChanger, served as Deepwater technology advisor and capabilities manager, and led FEAST-Shell’s Fluid Evaluation and Sampling Technologies center of excellence. Prior to Shell, Hani spent 15 years with Schlumberger in over 10 countries in Africa, Asia, and North America during which he has held various positions in interpretation, consulting, operations, marketing, and technology development. He holds several patents and has authored over 150 technical publications. He was the 2009-2010 President of the SPWLA, recipient of multiple SPE and SPWLA awards and a distinguished lecturer for both societies.
Mark Waddleton is the Vice President of Corporate Development of First Genesis – a blockchain solutions firm. He is an experienced leader that has headed cross-functional supply chain organizations. Most recently, he has focused his talents in the digitization of energy use cases.
As a graduate of the Harvard Business School – with undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering and Physics, Mark has held roles as a COO of a 3PL company, Director of Supply Chain at a global chemicals company and an investment banking Vice President focused on the Energy, Chemicals and Industrials industry. Now a Past President, Mark remains active on the Board of ISM-Houston as Director of Strategy and Innovation.

Kristoffer has 10+ years of experience from project management and execution, specializing in qualitative and quantitative interpretation of seismic and well log data. At dGB, Kristoffer has specialized in attribute analysis, seismic interpretation, seismic sequence stratigraphy and neural network analysis, including shallow- and recent deep learning methods. In addition, Kristoffer conducts technical sales and trains external geoscientists on dGB's open source interpretation software OpendTect. He is also very much involved in software development projects, providing feature development input and doing continuous product testing, as an adjunct to the development team. Kristoffer holds both a BSc and MSc in Geology from Åbo Akademi University, Finland and is an active member of AAPG and Houston Geological Society.
David is a geologist and geochemist who has been writing code and doing oil and gas data analytics since 2009. He has worked as an exploration consultant, run the worlds largest petroleum systems research group, and is a multiple company founder in private and PE backed exploration. He has worked 50 basins in 15 countries. David is currently CEO of Geolumina, a subsurface technology startup based in Austin Texas.
Bill Barna started his role at Google in July 2021. Previously, he had two careers with both Microsoft and the Department of State. At Microsoft, Bill worked in the product teams in Redmond and supported the Texas oil and gas industry. At State Department, he worked at embassies overseas.
Bill earned an MBA from Southern Methodist University, a Master of Science in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University, and is currently working on a Master of Geographic Information Systems at Penn State. Bill has had articles published in the Journal of Petroleum Technology.
Hamed Soroush is a geomechanics expert with more than 17 years of experience in different applications of rock mechanics in mining, civil and oil industries. He has conducted or managed more than 100 consulting and research projects worldwide. Hamed holds a position as Geomechanics Director at Petrolern Ltd responsible for providing in-house consulting for customers, conducting quality geomechanics training, and directing development programs. He is currently working for Shell as Geomechanics/Rock Physics Advisor in their Technology Centre in Houston. Prior to that, he was the Global Geomechanics Advisor for Weatherford based in Dubai providing project coordination, support and training for geomechanics and petroleum engineering applications. He has also worked with companies such as Technical and Soil Laboratories, CSIRO, GeoMechanics International, Senergy, and PDVSA in the Middle East, Asia Pacific, North Sea, and South America areas. Hamed holds BSc in Mining Engineering, MSc in Rock Mechanics and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. He has published 3 technical books, and several journal and conference papers. Hamed has given different industry short courses for PETROLERN, SPE and EAGE and has served as steering committee on several SPE conferences and workshops. He was selected as SPE Distinguished Lecturer for year 2012-13.
Milly is currently Director of Operations for Chemostrat Inc., with a strong emphasis on technical direction and project delivery. Prior to joining Chemostrat in the UK, she graduated from the University of Leicester with an honors degree in geology in 2000. She then went on to complete an MS in geology at the University of Houston in 2010, with research focused on chemostratigraphic applications to mud rocks in fluvio-deltaic depositional environments in the Ferron Sandstone, Utah. Milly has continued to publish research based around the applications of inorganic whole rock geochemical data to geosciences and to the oil industry and regularly presents papers at local and international conferences.
Dr. K.M. Strack is president of KMS Technologies- KJT Enterprises Inc. specializing in integrated seismic/electromagnetic technology for land & marine exploration, appraisal drilling and production monitoring for the geothermal/petroleum industry. He also is CTO for Responsible Energy Services International Inc. that provides data acquisition services to the green Energy industry. Present emphasis is to drive the technology enabling smooth energy transition to zero carbon footprint. In addition to his industry career, Kurt also has a distinguished academic career in Europe (Germany), Asia (China, Thailand, Indonesia and India), and USA where he co-supervised many M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and post-docs.
His company, KMS Technologies pioneers borehole, borehole-to-surface, and land & marine electromagnetics as link with the 3D seismic Earth model. Previously, he was Chief Scientist for Baker Atlas after various management positions. There founded Research Department and supported the development of numerous new logging tools. Prior to that Kurt pioneered LOTEM (Transient electromagnetics for hydrocarbon exploration) development and advanced borehole geophysics technologies in Germany, Australia and the USA. Kurt also serves as Adjunct Professor in the Earth and Atmospheric Geoscience Department and Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Houston, Mahidol University Bangkok, and at Yangtze University, Wuhan China (borehole geophysics and electrical methods for petroleum applications) (and other universities in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi and Germany). Kurt is also on the Advisory Board of the German Institute of the Southwest in Houston.
Kurt received a Ph.D. from the University of Cologne and a M.Sc. from Colorado School of Mines. He also did graduate work at Macquarie University in Australia and MBA course in the USA. He worked over the past 25 years as consultant, university researcher, and R & D manager in the geothermal and oil industry.
His geophysical work started with internships in Astrophysics in the Middle East and nuclear properties of materials in Eastern Europe, followed by Earthquake analysis and thermal conductivity methods development and geothermal exploration in the US. After that he focused on electromagnetic methods for oil & gas and geothermal in Germany. Subsequent he spent a decade developing new logging tools and methods in Logging industry. In the past 20 years he is building novel equipment for land and marine electromagnetics/seismic present being applied to CO2 monitoring.
Kurt has over 200 publications, 1 textbook & authors/co-authors more than 40 patents. He received two Fulbright scholarships and numerous international grants/awards. His interest is integrating geophysics with other disciplines, technology transfer and project development. He is a member of SPWLA, AAPG, ASEG, BDG, DGG, EAGE, EEGS, GRC, SPE, SEG and TSEG. He was Co-Chair of the Technical program for the IPTC in Bangkok 2012 and active in many committees. He was the Industry representative on the IAGA EM division and still provides frequent workshops at their bi-annual meetings. He is a Board Member of the German Institute of the Southwest in Houston.
The SPWLA granted Kurt a Distinguished Technical Achievement Award in 2003 for new logging technologies. SEG granted him the Reginald Fessenden Award for the development of through casing resistivity and 3D induction logging. The Russian Academy of Science elected him a Foreign Member and gave him the Kapitsa Gold Medal of Honor for his innovations to borehole geophysics and pioneering work to surface geophysics (Lotem). Kurt was Distinguished Lecturer for the SPE (1998-1999) and SPWLA (2004-2005). In 2007-2008 he received the SEG’s Presidents Special Services Award. 2012 Kurt is co-recipient for KMS Technologies’ Cecil H. Green Enterprise Award from the SEG. He is an Honorary Alumnus of University of Cologne.
Deborah Sacrey is a geologist/geophysicist with 41 years of oil and gas exploration experience in the Texas, Louisiana Gulf Coast, and Mid-Continent areas of the US. Deborah specializes in 2D and 3D interpretation for clients in the US and internationally.
She received her degree in Geology from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and began her career with Gulf Oil in Oklahoma City. She started Auburn Energy in 1990 and built her first geophysical workstation using the Kingdom software in 1996. Deborah then worked closely with SMT (now part of IHS) for 18 years developing and testing Kingdom. For the past eight years, she has been part of a team to study and bring the power of multi-attribute neural analysis of seismic data to the geoscience community, guided by Dr. Tom Smith, founder of SMT. Deborah has become an expert in the use of the Paradise® software and has over five discoveries for clients using the technology.
Dr. Shuvajit Bhattacharya is a geoscientist with research expertise in petrophysical analysis, 3D seismic interpretation, and machine learning in subsurface characterization. Dr. Bhattacharya is currently a research associate at the Bureau of Economic Geology, UT Austin. He is involved in multiple research projects on energy resources exploration (including geothermal energy), carbon and hydrogen storage in the subsurface. Prior to joining the Bureau of Economic Geology, he worked with the University of Alaska Anchorage, Battelle, and other organizations in different roles. He has published >60 technical research articles. He is the author of the book “A Primer on Machine Learning in Subsurface Geosciences”, published by Springer. He has completed a Ph.D. in geology focusing on machine learning at West Virginia University.
Patrick is Director – Global Research at Enverus, where he previously held positions in Technical Sales and Consulting and Product Management. Before joining Enverus, he spent 26 years working with large and small E&P companies as a member of exploration teams focused on basins in North America, Saudi Arabia, and central Europe, in roles from prospect generation and exploration management to business development and executive leadership. Patrick holds an A.B. in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College and an M.S. in Exploration and Development Geophysics from Stanford University.
Shahab D. Mohaghegh, a pioneer in the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Exploration and Production industry, is Professor of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at West Virginia University and the president and CEO of Intelligent Solutions, Inc. (ISI). He is the director of WVU-LEADS (Laboratory for Engineering Application of Data Science).
Including more than 30 years of research and development in the petroleum engineering application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, he has authored three books (Shale Analytics – Data Driven Reservoir Modeling – Application of Data-Driven Analytics for the Geological Storage of CO2), more than 230 technical papers and carried out more than 60 projects for independents, NOCs and IOCs. He is a SPE Distinguished Lecturer (2007 and 2020) and has been featured four times as the Distinguished Author in SPE’s Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT 2000 and 2005). He is the founder of SPE’s Technical Section dedicated to AI and machine learning (Petroleum Data-Driven Analytics, 2011). He has been honored by the U.S. Secretary of Energy for his AI-based technical contribution in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon (Macondo) incident in the Gulf of Mexico (2011) and was a member of U.S. Secretary of Energy’s Technical Advisory Committee on Unconventional Resources in two administrations (2008-2014). He represented the United States in the International Standard Organization (ISO) on Carbon Capture and Storage technical committee (2014-2016).
Dr. Lazarus joined Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) in October 2014 and is the Chief Scientist in Environmental & Sustainable Development. At PXD Dr. Lazarus has led a portfolio of programs focused on reducing the emissions, and footprint associated with large scale unconventional oil and gas operations. Before PXD, Dr. Lazarus was a program manager at DARPA in the Strategic Technology Office. At DARPA, Dr. Lazarus has led a number of programs focused on multifunctional structures and advanced energy systems. Dr. Lazarus's primary interests are ESG, innovation, and R&D strategy. Dr. Lazarus received his Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute, and his Master of Science in Engineering and Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
Nishant Jha is Director of Well Production Systems at Schlumberger since July 2020 and is responsible for technology portfolio, capital planning and global operations. Previously, he held a variety of senior positions within Schlumberger with his experience spanning operational, strategy, quality, and sales roles.

He has consulted for gold and silver mine operators in Washington State and has also worked international projects for the ExxonMobil Upstream Companies based from Houston. Scott J. Granger is a highly experienced engineer and sales professional with more than two decades of experience in the oil and gas industry. During his time in the Louisiana National Guard Scott completed a B.S. in Industrial Technology at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. Upon completing this degree he commenced his professional career in the oil and gas industry with Core Labs as a Field Engineer and subsequent Field Manager. In 1999 he joined Schlumberger continuing his professional growth and development and expanding into sales and business development. Moving to GeoMark Research in 2004 Scott helped to establish and grow their PVT and gas facility in Lafayette, Louisiana. Dr. Hosseini’s work focuses on CO2 enhanced oil recovery and geologic storage, an essential component of CCUS. He has led multiple field and laboratory studies on many aspects of the CCUS process, including estimating underground storage capacity, optimizing enhanced oil recovery to both store CO2 and recover oil, designing and implementing commercial monitoring programs, and assessing geosystem response to injection. The most recent projects includes:
1) monitoring of West Ranch field where CO2 captured from the largest post-combustion, carbon-capture facility in the world is used for EOR operations,
2) the Gulf of Mexico Partnership for Offshore Carbon Storage, one of the first efforts in the U.S. to assess the geologic layers below the seafloor for CO2 storage and
3) application of data analytics in subsurface applications. He holds a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from University of Tulsa; a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology; and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from University of Isfahan.
Dr. William Ampomah is Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering at New Mexico Tech(NMT), USA. Dr. Ampomah is also the Section Head of the REACT group at the Petroleum Recovery Research Center(PRRC) at NMT. He is a Lecturer at KNUST, Ghana. He is Principal Investigator and/or Co-Principal Investigator on at least five (5) US Department of Energy grants in research areas such as Enhanced oil recovery, CO2 Storage, subsurface geomechanics, subsurface monitoring, rare earth elements. She has a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Geology from Central Michigan University, a Master of Science in Geophysics from the University of Minnesota, and currently pursuing a PhD in Geology from Miami University.
Mason Dykstra has a BS in Geology/Geophysics from Northern Arizona University, an MS in Geology from the University of Colorado, and a PhD in Geology from the University of California Santa Barbara. Mason started his career with Anadarko Petroleum in 1999, working onshore in the Permian Basin before returning to academia in 2001, working at the University of California and Colorado School of Mines. In 2011 Mason joined Statoil in Bergen, Norway, to work on research and deepwater exploration. In 2013 Mason set up a new research center for Statoil in Austin, Texas, which he headed up until 2017. In 2017, Mason rejoined Anadarko Petroleum as the Director of Geoscience Technology, where he was responsible for supporting the global organization in the fields of Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics, Reservoir Characterization and Simulation. After Oxy acquired Anadarko Petroleum in 2019, Mason opted to leave and joined Enthought, where he is currently the Vice President of Energy Solutions.

As the Director for the Americas, Wafik promotes IOGP’s good practices in upstream operations and in the low-carbon energy transition to IOGP Members, regional industry associations, governments, and other stakeholders across North and South America. He is a secondee from TotalEnergies. Wafik has worked in the oil and gas industry since 1988, when he began as a geophysicist with Atlantic Richfield in Texas. He later worked for Elf Aquitaine in London in 1992 (now TotalEnergies), developing subsurface techniques – such as integrating geophysics and reservoir well test analysis. Bryan McDowell is the founder and president of Sabata Energy Consultants. He is a reservoir engineer and geologist specialized in integrating geologic and petroleum engineering datasets for multi-disciplinary assessments in oil & gas reservoirs. Bryan was an engineering/geoscience technical advisor for asset development at Discovery Natural Resources before starting Sabata in 2020. David Tonner received a Bachelors of Science in geology from the University of Nottingham in the UK and is in a Masters degree program with Stephen F Austin University. He has over 30 years’ experience in the field of surface logging measurements. Dave spent his formative years as a mud logger and pore pressure engineer working with Geoservices in Africa and the Middle East. From there he worked with Datalog Technology in the Western Canadian sedimentary basin including the Mackenzie Delta and then lived and worked in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia Argentina, Brazil, T & T and Mexico from 1993 to 2000 . Dave moved to Houston in 2000 and became part of Weatherford in 2008 through the acquisition of International Logging/Datalog Technology. Dave was vice president of Weatherford’s global surface logging group and oversaw global business development for Mudlogging, Rotary steerable drilling, LWD, MWD and directional drilling. Dave spent a brief period at Nabors as global director for performance drilling prior to joining Diversified Well Logging as Chief Executive Officer in late 2016. The last 4 years have been focused on automation of drill cuttings collection, quantitative rock and gas compositions and the integration with drilling data using data science and AI. Dave has been an active member of the HGS Houston Geological Society where he chaired the Northsider’s group for over 4 years. He is also a member of SPWLA, AAPG and SPE.
Andres Chavarria is OptaSense’s Oilfield Services Technical Director. His current focus is the use of distributed sensing fiber optic data for engineering and geoscience applications.
He has a background on borehole seismology (MS and VSP) and was previously the Geophysical Processing Manager at OptaSense, SR2020 and Paulsson. He has conducted work in other areas of geophysics including geothermal, mining and groundwater. He holds an Engineering Degree on Geophysics from the National University of Mexico and a PhD Degree on Geophysics from Duke University.
Dr. Ge Jin is Assistant Professor of Geophysics and Co-director of the Reservoir Characterization Project at Colorado School of Mines (CSM). He is interested in Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing (DFOS) and machine-learning applications in the oil industry, as well as seismic imaging and interpretation. He worked as a research geophysicist in the industry for 5 years before joining CSM. He initiated and developed several important DFOS applications for unconventional reservoir characterization, including low-frequency DAS strain monitoring, DAS-based microseismic imaging, DFOS-based production logging, tube-wave analysis, and reservoir guided wave analysis. Dr. Jin obtained his Ph.D. in Geophysics from Columbia University in the City of New York, and dual B.S. in Geophysics and Computer Science from Peking University.
Dr. Yuxing Ben is a reservoir engineer at Occidental, where she develops hybrid physics and data-driven solutions in the subsurface engineering technology group. She was the principal developer of machine learning technology for Anadarko's real-time drilling and hydraulic fracturing platforms. She won the best paper award from URTeC 2019 and was selected as a SPE distinguished lecturer for 2021. Prior to Anadarko, Dr. Ben served as the technical expert for Baker Hughes' hydraulic fracturing software—MFrac. She has developed complex fracture model for Halliburton and was a postdoc at MIT. She has authored more than 30 papers and holds three US patents. She earned a BS in theoretical mechanics at Peking University, and a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
Peter M. Duncan is Founder, President and CEO of MicroSeismic, Inc. He holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Toronto. His early career was with Shell Canada and then Digicon Geophysical, in Calgary then Houston. In 1992 he helped found 3DX Technologies Inc., a publicly traded independent oil and gas exploration company. Duncan was 2003-04 President of SEG and 2019-20 President of the Geophysical Society of Houston. Duncan was the Fall 2008 SEG/AAPG Distinguished Lecturer on the subject of Passive Seismic. He is an Honorary Member of SEG, CSEG, GSH and EAGE. His areas of technical expertise is in hydraulic fracturing & reservoir simulation related to field development/ execution.
Throughout his executive career, Bilu has held leadership positions at companies including Premier Oilfield Group, Sanjel Canada Ltd., and Schlumberger. As Senior VP of Technology within Premier Oilfield Group, his focus has been on developing technology differentiators, data solutions and services whilst executing field development projects within unconventional resources. Prior to this role, Mr. Cherian worked for two years as Director of the Corporate Reservoir Solutions with Sanjel and 13 years with Schlumberger, rising from Field Engineer to Engineering & Technology Manager. Bilu holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from RMIT University in Australia and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston. He has had 28 industry articles published and been involved with three patents.
Dawn Porter is a geoscientist and landman with 15 years of oil, gas, and energy experience. In her early career she was a professional skier and firefighter, studying geological engineering, then pivoted into the energy industry employing advanced geochemistry in the real-time at wellsites. She holds a BS in Technology Management and Earth Studies from UVU and an MBA from WGU-Texas. She has worked in the upstream energy industry across technical roles in exploration, production, and oilfield services and is employed by Stratum Reservoir. Her professional passions center around emerging technologies coupled with preservation of time-proven best practices. Withal, she is working towards acquiring production and wildcatting both oil and CCS/CCUS wells. She is an active member of the AAPG, SPE, SPWLA and AAPL. Her interests include food tourism with her family, golfing, motorcycles, and forensic genetic genealogy.

Matthew has a broad geoscience background with 15+yrs of industry experience. He has experience in subsalt seismic interpretation, reservoir geomodelling, onshore operations and well planning as well as deep knowledge in pore pressure prediction and real-time calculation. Matthew has worked multiple basins across the world from South America, Africa, Europe to South East Asia and is currently focused on Hess’ Atlantic margin assets in GoM, Canada and Guyana. Haibin Di is a Senior Data Scientist in the Digital Subsurface Intelligence team at Schlumberger. His research interest focuses on implementation of deep neural networks into multiple seismic applications, including stratigraphy interpretation, property estimation, denoising, seismic-well tie and new energy site characterization.
Dr. Jalal Jalali is a reservoir engineer and Sr. Consultant with Advanced Resources International, Inc. He has 12 years of experience in reservoir engineering in conventional and unconventional projects, conducting reservoir engineering studies including well test interpretation, numerical flow simulation and data-driven modeling using Machine Learning techniques.
In his current position at ARI, he has been involved in multiple reservoir modeling studies related to geologic CO2 storage in saline formations and CO2/EOR projects across different basins in the United States. Prior to joining ARI, he has been involved in the Utica Shale development covering the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, and reservoir simulation studies of the Monterey Shale formations in California.

I am a Geophysical Advisor and QA project lead at Bluware, where I work on developing a suite of integrated geoscience-oriented software solutions for the Oil and Gas industry. I worked as an exploration and research geophysicist for 16 years with Chevron then Noble Energy before coming to Bluware in 2019. My primary focus is on integrating geoscience-oriented machine learning applications into established subsurface workflows and properly utilizing the technology to streamline petroleum exploration tasks. I am an energetic contributor to the design and implementation of next-generation machine learning applications and am extremely enthusiastic about being part of the true subsurface digital transformation. My current projects include machine and deep learning solution architecture for E&P companies, technical integration management, and application testing and technical QA.
Dr. Hamed Darabi has expertise in AI, machine learning, and computational fluid dynamics. He is currently the CTO at QRI and is focused on digital transformation in the energy space. Hamed leads the development, deployment, and commercialization of SpeedWise® Galaxy (a suite of AI-driven cloud-native products) in collaboration with key partners, namely AWS and Emerson. Dr. Darabi received his Ph.D. in Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, where he extensively studied numerical and mathematical modeling. He has over 12 years of industry experience and has authored or co-authored more than 30 technical papers.

Dr. Alireza Haghighat is a senior technical advisor and instructor for Engineering Solutions at IHS Markit, focusing on reservoir/production engineering and data analytics. Prior to joining IHS, he was a senior reservoir engineer at Eclipse/Montage resources for nearly five years. He was an adjunct faculty member at Pennsylvania State University (PSU) for five years, teaching courses in Petroleum Engineering/Energy, Business and Finance departments. Dr. Haghighat is coauthor of "Machine Learning Guide for Oil and Gas Using Python" book published by Elsevier in 2021. He also has published several technical papers and book chapters on machine learning applications in smart wells, CO2 sequestration modeling, and production analysis of unconventional reservoirs. Felipe Lopez is an industrial software enthusiast with experience in the oil and gas, utilities, and manufacturing industries. Felipe is currently the Production Operations Solutions Architect in the AWS Energy Business Unit, where he develops cloud-enabled solutions to improve efficiency and safety in production operations. Lane is a Product Development Manager at Kayrros where he leads efforts to create and deliver satellite analytics and technology solutions with a focus on the energy industry. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Geology from the University of Arkansas (2011, 2013) as well as a M.S. in Data Science from Northwestern University (2019). Lane joined Southwestern Energy in 2013 as a Geoscientist and held a variety of roles in Petrophysics, Project Management, and Data Science with a focus on implementation and deployment of analytical solutions. She received her PhD in the Earth and Planetary Science Department at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from University of Chicago, a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), and a Master of Arts and Sciences in Earth Science from Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Scott has installed sensor networks and led field campaigns in Birmingham, Alabama, Nairobi (Kenya), and Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Benmadi Milad earned his Ph.D. (2019) in Petroleum Geosciences and M.S. (2013) in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma (OU), and B.S. (2006) in Petroleum Engineering from Sirte University. Currently, Benmadi Milad is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Petroleum Engineering (OU). Dr. Milad’s research focuses on integration of multiscale reservoir characterization, reservoir modeling, carbon capture and storage, and CO2–EOR. He is the recipient of the First–Place Ph.D. researcher, the Second-Place Ph.D. researcher by ConocoPhillips Company, the Best Applied Geology and Geophysics by Geosciences Department at OU, and the recipient of the Distinguish Graduate M.S. Student by Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy at OU. He worked for Eni Oil and Gas Company for two years in an offshore oil field.

He has been a pioneer and champion of strategic growth in technology, business models, machine design, and industrial digitization. He is a global public speaker on innovation, change, and leadership, as well as being an advocate in addressing modern slavery. David A. Leary retired in 2017 as Senior Advisor for ExxonMobil Exploration Company, having led and advised teams in global exploration and business development. He has expertise in frontier conventional and unconventional resource exploration and is a proven oil-finder with a track record of opening new petroleum provinces. His varied assignments over a 32-year career included Supervisor, Exxon Global Database, Upstream Research, Exploration Global Studies and Opportunity Development, Strategic Planning, and Technical Advising for teams and management in Russia/Caspian, Middle East, Europe, and China.
Leary is currently advising the Deep-time Digital Earth (DDE) Program of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and has an appointment as Visiting Professor at Chengdu University of Technology. He holds a BS (Geoscience) from Purdue University Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), and a MA (Geology) and MBA from the University of Texas (Austin). He has been recognized by Purdue University as a “Distinguished Science Alumni for Purdue’s College of Science”. With more than 14 years of experience, Nate has been working on projects that range from unconventionals to deep water and in areas from North Africa to the Caribbean. Currently, he leads exploration digitization projects that are changing the future of work in exploration. While his heart is still in the field, his latest passion is using Python to bring workflows and ideas from other disciplines into geosciences. Connor is a geoscientist with experience in technical business development, digital rock analysis, and reservoir characterization. With Petrosys Connor’s role is to leverage his knowledge and experience to work through deep-end geologic problems and generate surface modeling and mapping solutions for Petrosys Clients. Prior to joining Petrosys, Connor held a role at Thermo Fisher Scientific, helping companies implement digital rock workflows across the globe, allowing clients obtain rock properties from image data. These workflows ranged from dual energy CT analysis of cores, to measure density and effective atomic number, and analysis of SEM images to characterize mudrock pore systems. His previous Reservoir characterization and development geology experience was with ConocoPhillips. While with ConocoPhillips his responsibilities encompassed reservoir characterization, resource assessment, and development planning across a range of reservoir types including tight gas sands in South Texas, unconventional reservoirs in the San Juan Basin, and deepwater deposits in the Gulf of Mexico. His academic research background is in pore systems characterization in the Mancos Shale, which he conducted the University of Colorado (B.A., 2012; M.S., 2015). Larry N. Scott has over four decades of experience in geophysical exploration with in-depth exposure to a broad range of geoscience disciplines. He has served as NCS SubSea’s President and CEO since September 2014. Prior to joining NCS SubSea, Larry held executive level roles at NEOS Geosolutions, Global Geophysical, Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping, ION/GXT and Veritas Geophysical. He began his career with Western Geophysical in 1979 as a marine seismic data processor and assumed roles of progressively greater responsibility, eventually leading the Eastern and Western Hemisphere Marine divisions of Western Geophysical. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Larry is an active member of SEG and EAGE.
Dr. Steven M. Goolsby is a professional petroleum geologist and petrophysicist who specializes both in consulting and in the generation and appraisal of oil and gas plays and prospects throughout the United States and internationally. He received a B.S. in Geology from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1975 and a Ph.D. in Geology from the Colorado School of Mines in 2008. In 1975 Steven began his career as a geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, Colorado Geological Survey, American Hunter Exploration, and several other companies. In 1981 he cofounded Goolsby Brothers and Associates, Inc., which still furnishes a diverse array of geological and petrophysical consulting services to the oil and gas industry. In 2005, he joined Ed Coalson in founding Coyote Oil and Gas, LLC, an oil and gas exploration firm. In recent years he has also worked as a senior oil and gas exploration geologist and limited partner with Vecta Oil and Gas LLC, Foreland Resources, Ltd, and Verdad Oil and Gas. Steven has expertise in both conventional and unconventional plays, and has chased vertical and horizontal drilling opportunities in West Texas and in the Rocky Mountains. He currently generates exploration plays through Coyote Oil and Gas, LLC, and consulting through Goolsby Brothers and Associates, Inc. Steven is a Certified Petroleum Geologist through the Division of Professional Affairs of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and is a Registered Professional Geologist with the State of Wyoming. His current interests include oil and gas play appraisal and other studies that integrate rock properties, geophysical log responses, subsurface fluid attributes, and geology into the evaluation of oil and gas reservoirs.

Doug is a Vice President of Data Science at SAP in their Platform & Technologies Global Center of Excellence. He worked with strategic customers helping to implement Machine Learning into their business processes. Doug also worked at KXEN which was one of the pioneers of AutoML and in-database scoring. Prior to KXEN he was at Clarabridge, Oracle, and SPSS (now part of IBM). Doug has presented at numerous conferences including the MIT Technology Review, Decision Science Institute, Cisco Analytics Symposium (2017 & 2018), Chief Analytics Officer Conference(2016), and was a mentor for Data Science for Social Good at University of Chicago in 2013.
Dr. Joseph Batir is a Senior Geothermal Geoscientist with more than 10 years of experience in geothermal exploration and research. He leads the Petrolern geothermal technical team in thermal resource characterization, oilfield energy conversion, geothermal reservoir modeling, and new technology tool development. Dr. Batir’s expertise is geothermal resource identification and quantification through surface and subsurface geospatial analysis, play fairway mapping, and numerical modeling, leading to discovery of unknown and underutilized energy resources. His research involved the collation of disparate data and application of innovative analysis methods to discover new geologic insights. Dr. Batir has performed projects throughout the Continental United States, Alaska, Africa, Colombia, and Iceland. Dr. Batir was awarded a B.Sc. in Geology from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, a M.Sc. in Geothermal Energy from the School for Renewable Energy Science, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Southern Methodist University.

Johan has a B.S. Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas, an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston and did research at the doctorate level in Texas A&M. Johan Daal has been a contributor to several industry papers, and industry events. Johan is currently the Vice President for Business Development in Luftronix where he has a goal of increasing safety, reducing downtime and expanding margins for clients in the energy sector.

Becky Thomas, Chief Operating Officer, at i2k Connect Inc., her work experience spans 30+ years of commercializing products. She has been involved in 13 startup companies spanning the globe, industries, and technologies. Thomas is responsible for the delivery of i2k Connect’s Artificial Intelligence platform within the Energy industry. Dr. Lorena Moscardelli is a Research Scientist and leader of the State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) program at BEG. Her expertise is in seismic geomorphology and interpretation, sedimentology and stratigraphy and geoscience data integration. She received a degree in Geological Engineering from Central University of Venezuela (2000) and a PhD in Geological Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin (2007).
She specializes in the study of deep-water deposits with emphasis on subaqueous landslides, deep-water mixed siliciclastic-carbonate systems and planetary geology. She started her career as an exploration geologist working for PDVSA (2000 – 2003). Prior to her current position at STARR, Dr. Moscardelli was a Principal Researcher at Equinor (2013 – 2021) where she performed a wide range of activities from research in the Americas to field development in the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Her BEG career includes the co-funding and co-direction of the Quantitative Clastic Laboratory (QCL) (2007-2013) and her actual involvement as leader of STARR.
Most recently, Dr. Moscardelli has taken a strong interest in understanding the role of geoscience research as part of the ongoing energy transition while contributing to STARR’s main mission of conducting geologic research resulting in the increase of production and profitability of energy resources in the State of Texas.

Mr. Chelinsky holds a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from BITS, Pilani, and Masters in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Tulsa. He is currently pursuing his professional MBA at the Kellogg school of Management, Northwestern University.
Ken Tubman has over 35 years in energy technology with ConocoPhillips, Veritas DGC, Marathon Oil and ARCO. He has spent his career bringing leadership and vision to teams developing and commercializing technology.
He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of SAExploration, Chairman of the Advisory Board for Cloudstream Medical imaging, and as an advisor to other startup companies in addition to providing consulting services and on digital transformation and technology delivery.
Tubman earned a PhD in geophysics from MIT and holds a BSc in physics from University of Massachusetts.
Ali Husain is Chief Product Officer at SkyGrid | SparkCognition. Before coming to SparkCognition, Ali was a game designer at Forgotten Machine, and a program manager at Microsoft. With both a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, Ali is also a Unity Certified Developer.
